When and How to Use the Base Template Feature in MassMailer
Email marketing is still as relevant as ever, even with the emergence of social media and instant messaging as popular channels for customer engagement.

Email allows your company to establish a direct line of contact with your customers while including resources and other key information in the mail body. The overall experience of reading a marketing email trumps that of an instant message.
This is where working with email templates becomes important. You need to ensure that your email templates are meticulous and well-composed so that the campaign emails are engaging for the customers. To avoid spending too much time creating great emails from scratch each time, MassMailer facilitates you with creating base templates.
Let’s talk in detail about what they are and how you can create one in MassMailer.
What is a Base Template?
An email base template is also a template containing repeatable information that your company standardizes for all outgoing communications. The base template basically creates a foundation of standardized elements over which you can continue to build a custom template suited for various purposes (like newsletter, offer email, etc.).
For example, the header, footer, and logo of your company can constitute a base template over which you can build another template for marketing or complaint response purposes.
The base template aims to save you some time in creating new templates from scratch by adding several pre-requisite elements from the get-go.

- You can customize your base template by adding images, signatures, logos, social icons, etc.
- When you are done, click on “Save” and then click on “Save to Salesforce.”
- Copy the name of your template, and then go back to the “MassMailer Template Builder” tab to create a new one.
- You can create a new template by selecting a folder. In the “Select Template” field, click the dropdown menu and select “Create a New Template.”
- In the “Select Base Template” field, paste the name of the base template you copied earlier and select that base template when it appears in the dropdown menu.
- In the “Template Name” field, give this new template a name. Proceed to type the email subject line and other particulars.
- When you scroll down to the template builder section, you will notice that MassMailer has loaded the base template into the space. The new template, which already has all the base elements, can be customized as you wish.
- Once you are done, click on “Save” and then click on “Save to Salesforce.”
What are the Benefits of Using Email Templates?
Companies can enjoy several benefits from using email templates:
1. Saves Time
For sending bulk emails in a campaign, templates help save time by allowing you to build the email on top of a pre-existing basic structure. This saves the time it takes to compose each email from scratch.
Base templates help you save more time by providing a foundation over which you can build purpose-oriented templates for further use and customization.
2. Improves Efficiency
Templates help you quickly create an engaging email by eliminating the tedious task of repeatedly adding repeatable elements to the body.
Templates are meant to provide an initial structure to which customizations can be applied to create a great email. Thus, they enhance the efficiency of email composition and simplify the process.
3. Ensures Brand Consistency
Email base templates contain standardized elements that your company mandates to be included as branding. This includes the header, footer, logos, signatures, motto, vision/mission statements, contact information, etc.
You don’t need to add these elements to your outgoing communications manually each time you compose a mail. It also eliminates the risk of forgetting to include one or more of the mandatory elements in a mail.
4. Reduces Human Error
Email templates contain predetermined information and text that the creator need not edit. All the user has to do is type the mail body according to the email’s purpose. Everything else is already included in the template, helping reduce typographical errors that may happen.
5. Enhances Personalization
Email templates help enhance personalization by providing a framework for you to insert dynamic content.
For example, a template can contain fields like the recipient’s name, product recommendations, etc., that need to be populated, improving the degree of personalization and ultimately improving engagement rates.
